If there is one thing that David Williams apparently likes, it is cards. This professional poker player first made a splash in the world of card games by being a professional player of Magic: The Gathering. Though he has not totally left that circuit, Williams has fast become one of the players to watch in poker tournaments.

Marcel Luske, a professional poker player for Amsterdam, mentored the 29-year old Texan. Before entering poker tournaments and being mentored by the Dutch Luske, Williams was one of the best Magic: The Gathering players. Then, in the early 2000s, he decided to try his hand in poker and taught himself Texas Hold'Em. Williams did not try regular poker and instead, tried the online versions of the game where he, apparently, excelled. He took the world of poker by storm in 2004. He even placed second in the World Series of Poker tournament. He finished behind Greg Raymer and went home with a $3.5 million win. This tournament was also significant in terms of titles for Williams. He achieved the highest position an African-American ever reached in a W.S.O.P tournament. After he displayed good technique and strategy, Williams became part of Team Bodog the same year.

Aside from this win, Williams also finished as runner up in the World Poker Tour in 2004. With all these ranks and wins, many people have started to focus their attention on this new player.

Williams is an avid card player. He is part of the World Poker Tour Professional as well as the Professional Poker Tour. He has landed the cover of Card Player Magazine that featured him as one of the fastest rising professional poker players.

As of recent update, Williams has more than $6 million in earnings, $4 million of this amount came from his winnings in various poker tournaments he has joined and won. Testament to Williams' skill on the card game is the W.S.O.P. bracelet he wears around his arm: a memento he has gotten in 2006. He obtained this prestigious bracelet when he defeated John Hoang in a seven-stud match.

With these successes, Williams has gained many fans in the poker tournament world. He tries to keep them updated through the internet where he posts video blogs via the online TV channel RawVegas. The video blog offers its viewers a glimpse of this pro poker player's personal and professional life.

One interesting fact about Williams is that his mother, Shirley, is a fixture in poker tournaments. Though she was more of an audience, Shirley Williams once outlasted her son in a World Series of Poker Main event in 2006. She also participated in a Ladies W.S.O.P. event where she took the 465th position.
